Mediawiki has been installed as a tool for creating documentation relating to the different projects that we are involved in, either for our own self improvement or the benefit of others.

  • Tom's Projects page:  This is my projects page.  It's not complete, but I haven't forgotten about it.  I don't know what the deal is, but it seems like I have a gazillion things going on these days.

[edit] Summary of Ongoing Research

Web CMS software:  sNews from www.solucija.com/snews, CMS Made Simple from www.cmsmadesimple.org.  For sNews, I have three separate instances setup, one for my parents:  Happy Retirees, one for two of my nephews from Davis:  Stefan and Bryan and one that I use for testing.

I looked at some other apps that can be used as a CMS WordPress from wordpress.org, Magnolia from www.magnolia.info/en/magnolia.html and Joomla! from www.joomla.org, but the time required to learn these is too high at this time.  Maybe later.

So far I have included as a minimum on the site, sNews for a web CMS, SMF from www.simplemachines.org for the forum, MediaWiki for documentation and WebCollab for project management. The CMS will be the technology on wihch the web site is built around.

WordPress can be used as a CMS but that is not it's primary function and it's not as intuitive as I would like. I was looking at Joomla but that is too rich for what I need at this time. Magnolia and Lenya, which are 100% Java and run inside an application server, are really rich CMSs and are (at this time) very much more than I actually need. For the application server I am using JBoss because I am also using EJBs for one of the programs that I built.

Forums:  Coming Soon!

Project Management / Bug Tracking software:  Coming Soon!  Webcollab from webcollab.sourceforge.net and Bugzilla from www.bugzilla.org

Technologies and/or applications that I would like to become proficient in: MediaWiki | WebCollab | sNews | php | JSP | Servlet | MySQL | J2EE | Hibernate | Apache | JBoss AS | AJAX | Bugzilla; Not necessarily in this order.  In my spare time, I spend a little time looking at some other related technologies and/or apps including CMS Made Simple, HTML, iText, Wordpress and Zen Cart.

This is iText. This is a new program or a set of libraries that I am studying. It allows the programmatic creation and/or manipulation of PDF documents.

I had a php script (info.php) available for a short period of time but I have since moved it out of an accessible directory that displays information about the server. The contents of the file was <?php phpinfo(); ?> which generated a page chock full of information about the server it is executed on - I'm not sure if all that information should be public knowledge.

Here is a JBoss Application Server management console.

Other just-for-kicks Information This is some other gee-whiz information I decided to put out here for fun.

My Deuce
My Deuce

This is a picture of my 1967 M35A2 military deuce-and-a-half.  It's fun to drive but it doesn't corner very good at all :).  I haven't done any research on it but maybe when I have more time for that.

This is only the beginning, and hopefully there will be many more pages that are created on this site.
